Finally, i have finished the guidebook applying the Japanese book binding format.

This is how it looks.

Saturday 1 September 2012

This is roughly how i arranged the information for my guidebook in illustrator.

So, i decided to go for Japanese binding but still using the rice paper as i would still like the audience to have a difference experience while reading the book. Another reason i changed to Japanese binding book format is that i would like the ease the trouble of flipping the page while reading it. So that my target audience will enjoy the reading experience without worrying the page being accidentally tear off.

Final mock up on the presentation day.

Comments:

Overall it looks fine. It fulfilled the communication plan.
However,

the material is too fragile that it might cause people to be impatient when flipping the page to read the book.
The cover of the book is a bit too thick. It does not look appropriate with the thickness of the content.
Go for Japanese binding maybe?
Prioritise your intention;
Do you want the audience to read the content or just to have a different feeling towards the book?

This is the overall look of the accordion fold when it is being pulled out.

So, at the same time, i requested the artist to allow me to collect come of the seals stamp samples so that i can use it to enhance my information. Below are some of the samples that i get it from the artist.

Finally managed to meet up with the artist and took some photos that i thought mite b useful for my project.
